Temperance as How Someone Sees You — Tarot Meaning

Major Arcana · Temperance · Keywords: Balance, Moderation, Patience, Purpose

undefined

Temperance as how someone sees you is one of the more searched meanings in tarot, because this position describes the impression you make — how someone sees you, which is not always how you are. Here is how this card — the slow alchemy of enough — reads when it lands there.

What Temperance means as how someone sees you

Read as how someone sees you, Temperance is at its most literal. Forget cleverness: the slow alchemy of enough applied to the impression you make means what it says. The keywords balance, moderation, patience, purpose are not metaphors here — they are the report. When this card is upright in this position, trust the surface reading first; depth is for the surrounding cards.

There is a second layer worth noting. Temperance carries Sagittarius and Fire correspondences, and the slow alchemy of enough under those influences suggests the situation has momentum, not just meaning. Cards do not only describe states; they describe directions. The direction here is the one balance takes when it is honoured rather than resisted.

Temperance reversed as how someone sees you

Do not read the reversal as the opposite of the upright meaning; read it as the same meaning under pressure. Temperance reversed as how someone sees you keeps the slow alchemy of enough on the table but moves it somewhere harder to work with — underground, where the impression you make gets answered by avoidance instead of honesty. Naming the avoidance is usually the whole work.
