Seven of Pentacles as Intentions — Tarot Meaning

Minor Arcana · Seven of Pentacles · Keywords: Patience, Investment, Assessment, Reward

undefined

There is a reason readers ask what Seven of Pentacles means as intentions more than almost any other framing: the direction of the will is where readings get personal. The restless trial of matter — that is what this card brings to the position.

What Seven of Pentacles means as intentions

Think of the direction of the will as the frame and Seven of Pentacles as the picture. The frame asks about what someone means to do; the picture shows the restless trial of matter — Patience, long-term investment, assessment, and reward. Put them together and the upright meaning is: what someone means to do is currently characterised by patience, investment, assessment, reward, and the card endorses that state rather than warning against it.

It helps to remember what this card is not. Seven of Pentacles is not a verdict about worth; it is a description of matter in motion. The restless trial of matter — held lightly, that theme informs without imprisoning. The cards describe weather; you still choose the clothing.

Seven of Pentacles reversed as intentions

Do not read the reversal as the opposite of the upright meaning; read it as the same meaning under pressure. Seven of Pentacles reversed as intentions keeps the restless trial of matter on the table but moves it somewhere harder to work with — underground, where what someone means to do gets answered by avoidance instead of honesty. Naming the avoidance is usually the whole work.
